6. What does 'brief, solution-focused' mean?
Brief, solution-focused therapy is a goal-directed collaborative approach with a primary focus on identifying, and building upon a client's current strengths and resources to develop solutions that have tangible impact. Although present problems and preceding causes are explored, the emphasis is on changing current thoughts, feelings and behaviours to reduce current distress and build greater engagement with life.
7. What about space for exploration and reflection?
This is critically important. Part of therapy is to determine the client's state of readiness for change and to move at a pace which is optimal for them. Therapeutic needs are tailored to the client's presentation which may include prioritisation in terms of what is impact the client the most or their specific preferences.
